The end of the year is finally here and it’s time to celebrate!!! Hopefully you’ve already made plans to participate in the Holiday Potluck – and associated holiday activities – at our December meeting. We’re also having a Sit & Sew event in January which will be a great opportunity to socialize while seeing what projects other guild members are working on. Both of these meetings are focused on getting to know each other better so hopefully everyone will participate. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!
1. In the spirit of the holidays, we’re going to have a Christmas stocking contest that has the added benefit of helping those in need. Every member is asked to make and fill at least one Christmas stocking that will be given to women spending the holidays in a domestic abuse shelter. Stockings can be any design you like and should be filled with personal items (e.g., a pair of socks, stretchy gloves, eyeglass cleaning cloths, notepads, pens, etc.) and various treats. Stockings will be displayed at the December meeting, guild members will vote for their favorites and prizes will be awarded. And, now for the best part – the stockings will then be given to women in need who will truly appreciate your thoughtfulness!!! We sincerely hope that everyone will participate in this worthwhile event.
2. There will be a “white elephant” gift exchange. If you’re interested in participating, please bring a wrapped “white elephant” notion from your sewing supplies to be part of the exchange. The more the merrier!!!
3. We will also be making Scandinavian Stars at the meeting. Instructions for making the stars will be sent to everyone in December so please watch your email. We will have fabric prepared and provided at the meeting and, although printed instructions will be provided, it would be helpful if you could bring your smartphone with the instructions that were emailed to you. As for the potluck portion of the meeting, hopefully you’ve already figured out what scrumptious dish you’re going to bring (appetizer, salad, main dish, vegetable or dessert); however, if you haven’t figured it out yet, there’s still plenty of time to decide what delectable fare you’d like to share with your fellow guild members. I can’t wait to see what everyone brings!
